The Spark / Iskra
Poland, USA 2014 / 10’
experimental film (ballad + documentary)
cast: Katya Kan
The title spark, or Iskra in Russian, is both the name of the heroine and the name of the socialist newspaper whose first editor was Vladimir Lenin. Iskra also refers to the embers of history. In Aleksandra’s Wałaszek’s film, the protagonist is Katya Kan, a girl dreaming up a minimalistic story on the subject of her own patchwork biography. The film also contains numerous references to an essay by Kan’s father, Alexander Kan, titled The Way, or the History of One Curve.
