The video is a discourse between the self-identity and imposed identity of strangers.
I treat my body as a background for the nationality/identity context. The body-shape limits the men forcing the social mask phenomenon of perception. My face itself is nothing but a form. The content of my experience is constituted by my ability to act and the ‚me’ is assigned in the sphere of the multiple personalities. By changes of the voice, language and facial expression I am escaping my own identity. „Identification” is the opportunity to be someone else. Norwegian, Jewish, Spanish, Scottish, German – all these personalities are superimposed on one real character. The question is who is the real one?

Domestication |2009|
video DV-PAL 5 min. (loop), projection

This project was a part of a workshop entitled Hidden Places – an exhibition programme for young artists from cities lying alongside the Via Regia who were interested in architecture, urban culture and historical relations. The name Hidden Places represents a different kind of Europe, which does not appear on the cover of magazines, in travel brochures or in advertising brochures, but places which represent less well-known cultural stratifications  of European culture.
Domestication is a video made in Görlitz. The city of broken dreams, where up to 50 percent of flats stand vacant. Some of them are ready to be “explored”, waiting for action. One of the buildings attracted my attention. I have exaggerated the suggestive fragment of reality (a “dolls’ house” for real people), reviving the building with short stories taking place in every one of the six flats, which are illuminated by a bright light in the middle of the night. The monotony of daily-life becomes an exceptional spectacle. People become intrigued; the flats begin to stimulate their curiosity.

Storytellers |2009|

video DV-PAL, 7:28min; 4:31min                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   a part of Drive Out / Expanded City project during Media Art Biennale WRO 09

Expanded City questions the links between reality and simulation, while examining urban space in terms of the mobility of its inhabitants. The car, as a time capsule linked to the city flows, attempts to show the connection between reality and simulation.
„The Storytellers” which was installed in one of the vehicles, becomes a fixed projection inside the dark car moving into unknown space. While being inside the car, participiants could choose one of the few projects, that has been installed in the vehicle. „The Storyteller” was an audio or audio/video work, depending on the language knowledge of the viewer. Stories have been originally recorded in the Polish language and then translated into English, what divided the whole project into two possible situations. The first one required listening with Closed Eyes , while the other one, dependent not only on the timbre of the voice but also on the quality of translation, became a separate work. At the same time both of them were an expression of concerns over our language dependence. The representation of reality as ideological, constructed by simulacra. Storytelling is the mean of production and reproduction of reality. Baudrillard describes it as a path from „representation” (of something real) to „simulation” (with no secure reference to reality). We are conveying events in words and images by improvisation or embellishment. Stories are streams of voices, coloured memories, mixtures of facts and fantasies. And at the end they are always true as long as there is someone who believes in them.
